About Us

The idea of the Website on Itsekiri Language Study was originally mooted out of genuine concern by a group of Itsekiri patriots that were ardent followers of our regular Itsekiri Language Lecture on the WhatsApp Platform. These patriots include; Mr Etan Ogbemi, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (Rtd) and Mr Charles Lori. They felt that the audience spread of our lectures or lessons in Itsekiri Language should be expanded to benefit more people (Itsekiri and non-Itsekiri) all over the world desirous of learning, understanding and communicating in the language.
Consequently, these patriots came together with the aim of ensuring that the Itsekiri Language Study is spread widely and embraced across the world. It is based on this premise, their dogged determination and vibrancy that drove the process of creating this Website for the Itsekiri Language Study. The team charted the technological pathway to ensuring that this website is a reality. My humble self, as the language study lecturer on the WhatsApp Platform, was graciously invited to join and support the team as Content Provider for the website. This, according to them was a critical input required to help the team achieve their aim. To you all, genuine Itsekiri patriots, I owe a debt of gratitude for which only God Almighty can reward you abundantly.
Our target audience for this Itsekiri Language Study is mostly those Itsekiri out there who cannot speak and write the language at all or those who can speak but cannot write properly. It is also meant for those who can speak and write properly, but still need the lecture to rejig their intellectual acumen, which might bring to remembrance most of their lost Itsekiri vocabularies and old terminologies and for them to also be in constant tune with the Itsekiri usage through modern technologies. The essence is to encourage people, especially parents and guardians with younger children at home to cultivate the regular habit of communication at home in Itsekiri Language with their children and wards. This is very relevant to the children, who might have studied the language in school or online to help them always keep abreast with at least the spoken language they have learnt. It is also meant to encourage the Itsekiri people generally to always use the Language as their regular medium of communication where ever they find themselves coming together anywhere in the world.
This Website will also be open to people to exhibit their cultural knowledge, in areas of folk lore, in songs, rhymes and literature as well as ancient and modern stories, especially for children. The website will equally be open to all (Itsekiri and non-Itsekiri) interested in research on historical facts as known by the different authors. All these will provide the template for learning the Itsekiri Language and Culture on this site.
More progressive ideas to further the relevance of this Website are welcome at all times.
